In the 1950s, specifically between 1955 and 1957, Italo Siciliano – the rector in office – asked Carlo Scarpa to return to Ca’ Foscari and renovate the Aula once again, transforming it from an auditorium to a “normal” lecture hall. Scarpa preserved both the Sironi and Deluigi frescoes, removed the previous tribune, and designed the boiserie using part of the wood used in the 30s renovation. The boiserie’s unique design could isolate the room from the coming and going of students in the corridor while allowing the light from the windows facing the Canal to flood the entire space.
The entire new structure was destroyed by fire in 1979, but was rebuilt according to Scarpa’s design in 1983. It was further restored in 2005.
